I was happy with this study guide for the most part. I like the question/answer format, but attention to detail was not perfect. There are some questions that don’t have answers listed.
Ex: How does a HSI interact with VOR? How does it work?
There are no answers to these questions.
The pitot static failures section was a little confusing. I think it says altimeter a couple times where it should say airspeed indicator.
Other than that it’s a good overall review and a good way to supplement pilots cafe study guide. Passed my checkride so I’m happy. Symbology and weather charts were major points in my oral so for any students reading make sure you know all the symbols in low en route, approach plates, and weather charts.
A few questions on my oral that stumped me:
What times do TAFs come out?
He was not looking for every 6 hours but the specific times is EST that they are released.
Another one was an ILS approach plate at my alternate that said ADF required. Does your plane have an ADF? No. Can we still fly the approach? Yes. Can substitute with GPS.
Good luck!
Hi!
Thank you for bringing this to my attention. The document has just been updated, and includes the questions that also stumped you. Please feel free to message me and let me know if there's anything else. If you have the chance to review it and find it up to Standards, I would Appreciate it greatly for an updated review!
I bought the instrument study guide and it doesn’t disappoint! It has everything you need. I trust this study guide to get me through my checkride
I got this study guide when I started my instrument rating and had no idea how in depth it would be! I love that I can use it throughout my whole training and to prepare for my checkride. Every time an update gets made, you get sent the new and improved copy! I definitely recommend!
I used a similar study guide for my PPL checkride and i knew i wanted something similar for Instrument. I found this guide a week before my checkride so i pretty much knew everything i needed to but this guide was extremely helpful to double check my knowledge. I will most definitely use the commercial guide help me through commercial. For the low cost of $20 you can secure your knowledge for an expensive checkride.
Dramatically more in depth than I would have expected. I have a checkride in 3 weeks and I figured for 20 bucks another study guide wouldnt hurt. This feels less like a study guide and more like an actual insight to the oral exam, specific questions/topics and tips etc. instead of just attempting rote memorization off a list, this allows you to practice how you’ll answer questions that you’ll be asked. I’ll be recommending this to anyone who asks about a good guide. I’ll also be buying the commercial guide since im hopping right into it after IR
